There's Nothing Like Summertime on Old Cape Cod

![]() ![]() Ever since I was a little kid, my family and I have been going to Cape Cod during the summer. I can't even imagine what it would be like to live in say, Idaho, and perhaps never getting the opportunity to go to the ocean let alone never seeing the Cape unless I formally planned a vacation to go. I'm sure there are things like potato fields in Idaho, that people there see everyday and can't imagine others never seeing but I'm glad I live here, just a 55 minute drive from the Bourne bridge.
There's nothing quite like the Cape. To me, it is the epitome of New England living. The harbors, fishing boats and sail boats, dunes and beach grass and of course the aroma of the sea. It's great when you get to within 5 miles of Bourne and you start to see the signs "5 miles to bridge" and then start counting down the miles until you go around the last bend on Rt. 25 and there in big bold letters is the sign that says "Welcome to Cape Cod"
I've many fond memories of lodging and camping on the Cape. My dad and I still take day trips to the Cape Cod Canal for striper fishing...and after 42 years of doing it (I still don't think he's ever caught a "keeper"). But I shouldn't talk, I've only caught two myself. Fortunately, I increased my odds 3 years ago and bought a boat. Other great times include driving out to the tip of Massachusetts, to see Provincetown, visiting Falmouth and Chatham. Stopping for ice cream at one of many stands along the main street strips of Dennis. It's really a magical place. If you've never experienced Cape Cod you should definitely put it on your list of places to go.
I'm getting excited and counting the days before I head there again. July 19th I'm getting married and on July 20th my new wife and I are taking our boat and heading to the Cape for a few days of New England relaxation.
Maybe someday I'll plan a trip to a potato farm in Idaho, but for now...I'll take the Cape!
